The Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 in Victoria imposes duties on employers, the self-employed, employees, manufacturers, suppliers and others.
These duties include the requirement for employers to ensure that risks to health and safety are eliminated so far as is reasonably practicable, and if it is not reasonably practicable to eliminate risks, then reduce those risks so far as is reasonably practicable using the hierarchy of control.

For employers, these duties are extended to employees of contractors and other persons.
Additionally, section 22 (2) (b) of the Act requires employers to “employ or engage persons who are suitably qualified in relation to occupational health and safety to provide advice to the employer concerning the health and safety of employees of the employer.”

Your Workplace Health and Safety Management System can provide clear information and instruction about safe systems of work. It can define how hazards are managed and controlled.

Plant Risk Assessments

Our consultants use a Plant Risk Assessment (PRA) tool modelled on the Compliance Code for Plant 2018. Our consultants can provide PRA’s for fixed plant and specific mobile plant as required by the regulations and by utilising the practical guidance provided in the Compliance Code for Plant 2018.

A PRA is conducted to identify hazards associated with plant or machinery and provide control recommendations.

The benefits on the PRA:

  • Systematic approach to identifying and managing hazards.
  • Establishes the current level of compliance
  • Provides key areas of improvement and recommendations

A Safety Systems PRA focuses on achieving compliance outcomes that are industry specific with consideration to operational practices.
